How to Stay Ahead of the Backpack Crew

1. Start your school-day routine now.As summer winds down, start your child’s bedtime a bit earlier, slowly moving to the desired time. This also means waking the kids up a bit earlier, too.

Sleep Tip: According to the National Sleep Foundation, teens (ages 14-17) need 8-10 hours of sleep, school-aged children (6-13) need 9-11 hours of sleep, and preschool-aged children (3-5) need 10-13 hours.

2. Do a reconnaissance mission.Get permission to visit the school. Hang out on the swings, stroll around the buildings, find the bathrooms and get familiar with the layout before that big first day. Most schools have an orientation day, but visiting when it’s quiet can make all the difference.Croissant Waffle Breakfast Sandwich

3. Stay organized.Going back to school involves needing to keep track of an overwhelming amount of items … papers, forms, books and school supplies. If these items aren’t organized into individual bags or cases, the clutter will take over. Be creative with organization ideas for your family.

4. Wake up 30 minutes before the kids. When you get ready first, you allow yourself to ease into the day. Give yourself some alone time without the little ones fighting for your attention. Easy Breakfast Tip: Need a little morning inspiration? We’ve got the perfect on-the-go recipe.
